Chechen Diaspora accuses French authorities of Gadaev's illegal deportation

The deportation of the Chechen-born Magomed Gadaev to Russia is illegal; his life is in danger, the Assembly of Chechens in Europe has stated blaming Gerald Darmanin, the French Interior Minister, for Gadaev's fate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 9, the 37-year-old Magomed Gadaev was deported from France to Russia despite his protest. Once at the police of the city of Novy Urengoy, he stated that he needed state protection, as his life was in danger. On April 11, the police of Novy Urengoy handed Magomed Gadaev over to Chechen law enforcers, who took him to Chechnya in connection with a criminal case on keeping weapons.

Magomed Gadaev, who left Russia in 2010, is a witness in a criminal case brought against Chechen law enforcers under the articles "Kidnapping" and "Exceeding Official Powers", which is still being investigated, the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper reported earlier. In Chechnya, Gadaev had been kidnapped, kept at some Chechen power body, from where he managed to get out and go abroad.

The deportation of Magomed Gadaev from France to Russia "is an indescribable and especially painful wound for the entire Chechen Diaspora in Europe," says the statement issued by the Assembly of European Chechens in the evening on April 12.

The statement asserts that "human rights and judicial decisions are no longer a priority for France, especially when it comes to Chechen refugees."

"For the first time in France, not a single political refugee is protected. The Interior Minister has betrayed the fundamental values of our country," the statement asserts.

The authors claim that they are unaware of Magomed Gadaev's fate, but they are convinced that "he was 'deported' directly to those who had tortured, kidnapped and murdered thousands of people."
