Journalists fill in the gaps in inquiry into Nemtsov's murder

The investigation of the "Mediazona" and the "Scanner Project" into the murder of Boris Nemtsov has shown that only ordinary perpetrators occurred in the prisoner's dock, Dmitry Borko, a journalist, has noted. The journalists did the work that investigators never did, Vadim Prokhorov, the advocate for the Nemtsov family, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that journalists of the "Mediazona" and the "Scanner Project" have conducted an investigation and concluded by the outcomes thereof that the chronology of phone calls, videos and information about air travels indicate that several natives of Chechnya, who had not been convicted, but whose names are known, were involved in the resonant murder.

Russian politician Boris Nemtsov was shot dead in Moscow on February 27, 2015. In 2017, the court found five natives of Chechnya guilty of committing the murder, and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 11 to 20 years.

Vadim Prokhorov said that journalists performed the work the investigators who had dealt with the case should have done.

"The official investigation is deliberately stalling. At the highest level, it was decided to bring only a few people to justice. The real customers haven't been punished by this decision," Mr Prokhorov told the "Caucasian Knot".

In his opinion, the role of Aslanbek Khataev, a Chechen law enforcer, has not been fully investigated. "Much remains to be cleared out to fully appreciate its role," the advocate has stressed.

Many people involved in Nemtsov's murder were not interrogated even as witnesses, Dmitry Borko, an independent journalist, asserts.

"One gets an impression that investigators have deliberately bypassed some key figurants in the case, who were not even questioned as witnesses. A lot of them have been removed from the investigation. With time, more and more names appear in this case; for example, Aslanbek Khataev. Until now, his name wasn't known; and no one was informed about his role," Mr Borko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He has emphasized that the investigation conducted by the "Mediazona" and the "Scanner Project" showed that only people from the lower layer of perpetrators occurred in the prisoner's dock.
