Journalists' inquiry expands range of Chechen natives involved in Nemtsov's murder

The chronology of calls, videos and information about air travel points to involvement of several other Chechen natives in Boris Nemtsov's murder; they were not convicted, although their names are known, says the joint journalistic investigation of the "Mediazona" and the "Scanner Project".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Boris Nemtsov was shot dead in Moscow on February 27, 2015. In 2017, the court found five natives of Chechnya guilty of committing the murder, and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 11 to 20 years. In November 2020, the authors of the "Mediazona" and the "Scanner Project" investigation stated that investigators in the case had ignored the links of the convicts for Nemtsov's murder with people close to the Chechen authorities.

Based on the full billings that the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) requested in the course of inquiry into Nemtsov's murder, as well as on the analysis of video records and information about air travels, they managed to "fill in the gaps in the investigators' version and restore the picture of the preparation of the murder and flight of a group of killers from Moscow," says the material "How Boris Nemtsov was killed. Complete chronology of calls and travels, communication with Kadyrov's close associates and new group members", published on March 1 by the "Mediazona". It was made jointly with employees of the "Scanner Project".

It follows from the chronology that an active member of the group was the Chechen law enforcer, Aslanbek Khataev, with whom Nemtsov's killers had communicated. On the day of the murder, he and another key member of the group, Ruslan Geremeev, "made call themselves and received calls from Senator Suleiman Geremeev and State Duma MP Adam Delimkhanov," says the material.

"The chronology has not only shown a direct link with the crime of several people who were not convicted, although their names were known, but also helped to identify and name several more possible accomplices," the "Mediazona" said.
