European Commission funds projects in support of IDPs in Georgia
The aim of six projects is to revive the social and political dialogue between the government of Georgia and the society on the issues that worry the refugees: integration of internally displaced persons (IDPs) into the current Georgian society and capacity building of the NGOs who work with IDPs. A total of 570,000 euros have been allocated on the projects, which will last for 1-2 years.
"We intend to support the refugees' organizations and to boost our joint pressure on the Georgian government," Pata Zakareishvili, coordinator of the NGO "Reconciliation Resources," has told the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot."
The NGO "Reconciliation Resources" will be in charge, together with 12 other NGOs, of the project "Creating Opportunities for IDPs to Go to Politics." Mr. Pata Zakareishvili has stated that the aim of the project is to set up institutional conditions for locally-operated NGOs. The network of NGOs with whom the "Reconciliation Resources" cooperates is covering in fact the whole of Georgia. The network includes the "Abkhazintercont" (Kutaisi), the "Centre for Ensuring Rights and Democracy" (Zugdidi), "Re Studio" (Tbilisi) and others.
