Alkhanov-Kadyrov confrontation aggravates in Chechnya

The confrontation between head of Chechnya Alu Alkhanov and premier of the Republic's government Ramzan Kadyrov continues to build-up. Mr. Alkhanov made a statement and held a sitting with the managers of power agencies of federal subordination. Local power agents who are actually under control of the prime minister did not appear at the sitting.

Moreover, German Vok, secretary of the Council for Economic and Public Security (CEPS) of Chechnya, offered Ramzan Kadyrov to resign. "It all evidences that contradictions between "Alkhanov's team" and "Ramzan Kadyrov's team" have reached a critical point," one of local observers thinks.

"In these latter days, everybody is just talking about a soon resignation of Alkhanov from the post of the head of the Republic. Nobody doubts that the post will then be taken by Ramzan Kadyrov," the source said.

"It looks like Alkhanov has managed again to win some support in Moscow, where he was last week. Yesterday, he actually accused Kadyrov of planting his personality cult. Besides, Alkhanov yesterday held a meeting with the Military Commandant of Chechnya, Prosecutor of the Republic and head of the ORB-2 (Regional Security Unit), that is, with the heads of federal subordination structures. Local power agents were not invited. It is known that they are under Ramzan Kadyrov," the source added.
