Chechen woman detained for witchcraft

Law enforcers have detained Zarema Makhmudova, a resident of the Gudermes District, and the theologian, Adam Elzhurkaev, has reprimanded her for providing occult services. The two women who had turned to Makhmudova for help were also publicly scolded.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since July 2019, persecution of residents for providing occult services has intensified in Chechnya. Natives of neighbouring districts are also subject to public scolding. Thus, on February 4, the above Adam Elzhurkaev reprimanded Lida Ausheva, a native of Ingushetia, for her providing magical services.

Another witch has been detained in the village of Oiskhara, the "Grozny" TV Channel has reported on the Instagram. "Zarema Makhmudova, who was a masseuse and a newly made healer in the past, decided to attract attention, by means of fortune telling and a love spell, of her acquaintance who has a wife and children. The police have seized prayers, photos and other witchcraft objects from her," the TV report says.

The authors of the report have noted that occultism can lead to serious consequences. "Theologian, Adam Elzhurkaev, has conducted an explanatory talk with the charlatan and her clients, explaining that the Almighty had cursed sorcerers and everyone who turned to their services," the journalist has concluded.

Let us remind you that the hunt for sorcerers in Chechnya has turned into persecutions of their clients. Thus, on January 17, a clergyman reprimanded a group of men from the Shali District and a taxi driver who transported them for their trip to a witch.
