Stavropol townspeople pointed to protest growth in the city

Actions in support of Alexei Navalny have covered several cities of the Stavropol Territory. Residents of Stavropol, the capital of the Territory, are now more active in protests, the marchers have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 23, Russia, including its southern regions, hosted rallies in support of the opposition leader, Alexei Navalny. Police started to detain activists. Residents of Stavropol and Essentuki also took to mass rallies in support of Alexei Navalny.

On January 17, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who flew from Berlin to Moscow, was detained at the Sheremetyevo Airport, and on January 18, the court ruled to keep him in custody until February 15, 2021.

After Navalny's arrest, the FBK has released an investigation about Putin's palace near the city of Gelendjik, Krasnodar Territory, the largest private house in Russia, which is being built for money of state-owned companies.

The exact number of those detained in Stavropol is being updated, Elena Glinberg, the leader of local Navalny's supporters, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "According to various sources, there were 12-13 people in several paddy wagons," she said. In her opinion, about a thousand people took part in the action. The regional branch of the "Golos" (Vote) Movement gave the same estimate.

The residents of Stavropol interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent pointed to an increase in protest activeness. "They say that Stavropol is not a protest city. This is not true. Some people came to Lenin Square. We are all chanting: 'Freedom!" said Marina, a resident of Stavropol. "It is not the first day that I see how 'beeping' cars are greeting various activists," said Evgenia, another protester.
