Tbilisi: more than 10 activists detained at protest action

In Tbilisi, supporters of the Georgian opposition have come out to an action against the results of the parliamentary elections. Policemen detained more than ten persons after they tried to block the road, the organizer of the action has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 31, 2020, Georgia held the first round of parliamentary elections; and on November 21, the second round thereof was held. According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party gained 48.22% of the vote. The opposition refused to admit the outcomes of the vote and demanded re-elections. On December 11, the opposition refused to participate in the parliamentary activities. A boycott of the authorities' opponents of the parliament's work could lead to an aggravation of the political crisis, analysts warn.

Several dozen oppositionists and NGO activists went out to an action in Tbilisi, where the "Georgian Dream" Party congress is to take place, the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel has reported.

Nika Parulava, one of the organizers of the action, said that more than ten activists had already been detained, the "Sputnik Georgia" reports.
