HRC "Memorial": refugees from Ingushetia are under threat of resettlement to North Ossetia at law

On December 26, 2006, the Prigorodny District of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania (RNO-A) held a court session in the village of Oktiabrskoe on a civil suit of the administration of the Prigorodny District of the RNO-A and administration of the dwelling settlement Maiskiy of the RNO-A towards the residents of the refugees' settlement in Maiskiy (19 families). The latter were accused of illegal use of agricultural land. The defendants failed to appear at the courtroom, although they had been notified about it two days in advance. The court session was held in their absentia.

The court satisfied the claim of the administration of the Prigorodny District and administration of Maiskiy settlement and obliged the heads of the 19 families of forced migrants to relocate their temporary house trailers to the settlement of Novy of the Prigorodny District of the RNO-A to a specially allocated land ground for installation there.

On January 19, 2007, the court judgement was served by the court marshal to one of the defendants - Magomed Tsurov, who is an acting commandant of the camp. The ruling stated that it had come into force as from January 15, 2007. Thus, the defendants were deprived of their chance to appeal against the judgement in the legal order.
