Interference of Russia's Embassy gives hope for extradition of Ingushes arrested in Egypt

The Russia's Embassy in Cairo has called on the Egyptian Prosecutor General to allow the extradition of four Ingush students kept in a local prison for two years on charges of extremism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the arrest of Ingush students is regularly extended. Their relatives complained that Russian authorities were doing nothing to release them.

Students from Ingushetia were accused of extremism, espionage and links with the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court. The fate of the fifth detainee, Khizir Dugiev, remains unknown.

There is still no progress in the case, said Malika Dzeitova, the mother of one of the students. According to her story, even advocates do not know how to defend them.

"My son went there to study; he excellently passed his exams and wanted to continue his studies, but he was detained for no reason," she has complained.

Ms Dzeitova has added that the arrested students had had coronavirus.

Ismaila Chemurzieva, the mother of another arrested person, spoke also about complaints on custody conditions.

The likelihood of Ingush students' extradition is high, the lawyer, Evgeny Chernousov, believes. According to his version, if the charges remain in effect, the trial will continue in Russia.
