Defence of North-Ossetian resident accused of terrorism blames the court of bias

The court, while considering the case of Georgy Guev, a native of North Ossetia, accused of financing terrorism, has supported the prosecution since the very first session, the advocate asserts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Georgy Guev was detained in Moscow in May 2019 and arrested. On November 20, 2020, the court sentenced him to six years in a high security colony. Guev has refused to plead guilty; and his defence intends to appeal against the verdict.

Investigators believe that in 2015-2019, Guev accumulated money in his bank card for the militants of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, as well as for Israil Akhmednabiev (Abu Umar Sasitlinsky, a famous Dagestani preacher), declared wanted within the case of terrorism, the founder of the "Mukhajirun" Islamic Foundation. Guev claimed that he had made only a few transfers to the "Living Heart" Foundation, which deals with the shortage of drinking water in Africa.

In the opinion of Umalat Saigitov, an advocate, Guev's guilt has not been proved; and the court from the very first session exhibited an accusatory bias, the advocate asserts. The defence plans to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
