Court extends arrests for leaders of Ingush protests

A court extended for six months the arrests for Ingush activists Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, Bagaudin Khautiev, Barakh Chemurziev, Malsag Uzhakhov, Akhmed Nalgiev, and Zarifa Sautieva, accused of creating an extremist community.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 26, 2019, residents of Ingushetia extended a rally in Magas without a sanction from the authorities. After that, clashes occurred between the protestors and the police at the rally. By the end of September, the verdicts to 25 out of 44 activists accused of involvement in the clashes with the law enforcers came into force.

According to Fatima Urusova, an advocate of Akhmed Barakhoev, the defendants voiced complaints about the conditions of detention in a SIZO (pre-trial prison). The advocate has also added that the defence will request the court to invite doctors to provide the medical treatment for Akhmed Barakhoev.
