Attempt to take her relatives out of Syria turns into criminal prosecution of Dagestani woman

Patimat Ramazanova, 63, from Kizilyurt, has been accused of taking part in a terrorist organization and placed into SIZO (pre-trial prison), despite her health problems, her advocate has stated. Patimat travelled to Syria to help her daughter and three granddaughters with returning to Dagestan, her sister has explained.

Patimat Ramazanova was detained on November 3, when she flew from Turkey to Moscow, her advocate, Musa Kurbanaliev, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He has noted that his client was legally illiterate. She went to Syria to save her daughter and granddaughters, not even knowing what situation she would find herself in there, in a foreign country where the fighting was underway.

"She considers herself innocent; she did not participate in any terrorist organizations. She has no need to prove her innocence," the advocate has stated.

Khadizhat, a sister of Patimat Ramazanova, said that her sister's daughter, Raziyat, left with her children for Syria after her husband's death in 2014, and a year later "bad news began coming from there." "That there are strong bombings; many people perished; and people are starving. And a year later, Patimat flew to Turkey aiming to return home with her daughter and granddaughters," the sister has added.
