Azerbaijan counts over 60 destroyed mosques in Nagorno-Karabakh

In Nagorno-Karabakh, 63 out of 67 mosques were completely destroyed; hundreds of historical and cultural monuments were damaged, the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences reported on November 11.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azerbaijan will seek compensation from Armenia for the material damage inflicted on the Azerbaijani territories during the time they were under the control of Yerevan and the authorities of the unrecognized republic, Ilham Aliev stated on November 11.

On November 10, an agreement between Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on the cessation of the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh came into force. According to the text of the statement, the Azerbaijani army is to stop at occupied positions in Nagorno-Karabakh, and a buffer zone of five Azerbaijani regions surrounding the unrecognized republic is to be voluntarily transferred to Azerbaijan.

Data has been made public on the damage caused to the monuments of history and culture of Azerbaijan located in the territories that were under Armenia's control. Out of 67 mosques in situated in Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent districts of Azerbaijan, 63 were completely destroyed, four buildings were damaged, the "Sputnik-Azerbaijan" has cited the data of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan today.

In Shusha, 215 historical and cultural monuments were damaged; in Agdam – 140 ones, in Djebrail and Khodjavend – 93 monuments in each district were damaged; in Kelbadjar – 91 ones; in the Lachin District – 74 one; in the Gubadly and Fizuli Districts – 71 ones in each; in Zangilan – 56 ones, and in Khojaly – 28 ones, the "Trend.az" quoted on November 11 the words of Faid Ismayilov, an employee of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
