PACE advises to involve Russian opposition in addressing Chechnya's problems
Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), who paid a visit to Chechnya, were glad with its outcomes. We remind you that Andreas Gross, chairman of the sub-commission for holding a roundtable in the Chechen Republic, had a meeting with Alu Alkhanov, president of Chechnya.
The "Nezavisimaya Gazeta" (Independent Newspaper) wrote, while analyzing the results of the voyage, that the Kremlin should "appoint" a certain opposition representative to arrive to the roundtable in Grozny and to criticize the Chechen leadership.
In any case, this should follow, if we outgo from Andreas Gross' statement. The chairman of the sub-commission would like that "the roundtable is attended by those who criticize the powers while staying in Moscow, Berlin or Grozny." In his words, the sitting should be held not only by the people who agree on everything, but also by other members of the society, since the problem in question is the reconciliation process, and this process "is much more complex than just building houses."
