Trial of Abdurakhmanov's attempted murder starts with suspect's confession

The man accused of an attempted murder of Tumso Abdurakhmanov, the well-known Chechen blogger, has partially admitted his guilt, but insists that he had not planned to kill him. The woman accused of aiding the attacker completely denies her guilt, writes the "Dagens Nyheter".

On February 26, 2020, in Sweden, Abdurakhmanov was attacked by a man, who penetrated his apartment with a hammer. Abdurakhmanov managed to disarm the attacker, who turned out to be Ruslan Mamaev, born in 1990.

The prosecutor, Per Lindqvist, has stated that the accused were linked to Chechen authorities. Jens Shelund, an advocate, has stressed that in Grozny "they had promised a reward for the blogger's head."

According to Gustav Andersson, another advocate, the accused attacker could not disobey the people who sent him to Sweden from Grozny, but was going to "fail his mission" – to harm the blogger without killing him.

The second accused is a 30-year-old woman, also a Russian citizen. The investigators believe that she had got acquainted with Tumso Abdurakhmanov in order to visit his home and help in organizing the attack.
