Kadyrov argues with Peskov about subordination in foreign policy
In response to criticism from Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, Ramzan Kadyrov confirmed his attitude towards the French president, whom he had earlier compared to a terrorist. The leader of Chechnya says that he is ready to suffer for his position or leave his post.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the French president's decision to create "enlightened Islam" in the country and his refusal to condemn the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad provoked sharp criticism from the authorities of Chechnya. On October 27, Ramzan Kadyrov accused Emmanuel Macron of fomenting extremist ideas, and Chechen Mufti Salakh Mezhiev declared the French president "the terrorist number one."
On October 16, Samuel Paty, a teacher of history and geography, was beheaded in a Paris suburb. At a lesson on the freedom of speech, the teacher had shown caricatures on Prophet Muhammad from the "Charlie Hebdo" magazine to his pupils. The alleged killer was shot dead by policemen and identified as Abdulak Anzorov, 18, a Russian citizen of Chechen origin.
Today, while commenting on the call of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to French President Emmanuel Macron to "stop attacks on faith," Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov has said that only the president of the country may determine the foreign policy of Russia, and heads of the regions do not have such power.
Ramzan Kadyrov has argued with Dmitry Peskov concerning his own statement about the French president. "It should be taken into account that I have expressed my opinion to the French authorities as a Muslim, and not as a politician," Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on his Telegram channel.
The leader of Chechnya has noted that "again as a Muslim," he repeats his words about Emmanuel Macron and that he "is ready to do it a thousand more times." "If necessary, I am ready to leave the post and suffer or give my life for my position! But I cannot and will not be silently watching how infidels are scoffing at my religion!" Ramzan Kadyrov emphasized.
