Social network users accuse rapper of desecrating North-Ossetian sanctuary

Rap singer Djigan walked into the Rekom Sanctuary in shoes, breaking the tradition and desecrating the place, Instagram users have stated.

On October 1, Denis Ustimenko-Vainshtein, a Ukrainian and Russian rap singer, also known by his stage name Djigan, posted a photo of himself at the Rekom Sanctuary in his Instagram page. In the photo, Djigan, dressed in sportswear and sneakers, sits on a fence made of raw stone. Behind him is the wooden sanctuary building with animal skulls on the facade.

Many readers were outraged that the singer ignored the rules for visiting the sanctuary. "... You can't read, can you? At the entrance to the Rekom, there is a sign in two languages, where the rules are written. This is a holy place! <...> One can't walk in shoes there! He desecrates our holy places!" the user chermen_savlokhov has written today.

The Rekom Sanctuary is located in the Tsey Gorge at the altitude of 1946 meters above sea level. According to scientists, it was built in 1382. Unlike other places of worship in the region, the sanctuary was built of logs, not stone.
