HRC "Memorial" supports forced migrants in dispute over eviction from Nazran barrack

In Ingushetia, the authorities try to evict 13 families of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from North Ossetia and Chechnya from a barrack in Nazran, without offering any housing in return, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports. The human rights defenders promise to appeal to the Russian government.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Ingushetia, there have already been registered cases of eviction of Chechen refugees from a temporary accommodation centre (TAC).

The authorities are going to evict 12 families of IDPs from the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia and one Chechen family from a barrack located in the Gamurzievsky administrative district of Nazran, the HRC "Memorial" reports on its website. The forced migrants are not offered any other housing, and the authorities intend to evict them into the street on the eve of the cold season, the human rights defenders report in their press release.

"Many families have been living in the barrack for 24 years already, since they were settled there by the decision of the Ingush government in 1996," the human rights defenders note. The forced migrants appealed to the Ingush Ombudsman's Office and to the Prosecutor's Office of Ingushetia, but prosecutors refused to accept their complaint. The human rights defenders intend to send an appeal to the Russian government.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
