Relatives of KBR law enforcers demand to check Nagoev's complaint about torture

Female relatives of the detained colleagues of Yuri Nagoev, a former deputy chief of GIBDD (traffic police) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), have appealed to the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) with a demand to check Nagoev's complaint about torture and prevent the same treatment of their relatives.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 24, an advocate, Buberd Maremov, said that the arrested former deputy chief of the GIBDD of the KBR, Yuri Nagoev, was tortured at the isolation facility and forced to incriminate himself and his colleagues, and reject the advocate.

Yuri Nagoev was detained in May 2019 and accused of creating a criminal community and bribe-taking. Investigators assert that law enforcers received 42 million roubles for a permit to transport illegally produced alcohol across the republic. Nagoev refuses to plead guilty.

On September 25, about 10 mothers and wives of the accused employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) met in Yessentuki with a GPO official for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and handed him a complaint against law enforcers' actions, the advocate, Buberd Maremov, who is representing Yuri Nagoev's interests, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on September 27.

"We, the parents of those arrested under the investigation, fear for the life and health of our sons and we decisively ask you to protect them from such actions in the future," the women's appeal says.

The authors of the appeal also demanded to conduct a procedural check of the fact of use of physical force against Nagoev and to bring the perpetrator to justice.
