In Chechnya, police chief reprimands detainees for using drugs

The chief of the OVD (Interior Division) for the Urus-Martan District made detainees repent for using drugs and driving while being in a state of alcoholic intoxication. Parents of the offenders, whom law enforcers warned about responsibility for the behaviour of their children, promised to control them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Chechen law enforcers regularly publicly reprimand local residents for offenses. So, on August 30, a video was posted on Instagram in which the chief of the OVD for the Kurchaloi District reprimanded men for drinking alcoholic beverages. Human rights defenders criticized the law enforcement bodies for humiliating people.

Valid Batsilov, the chief of the OVD for the Urus-Martan District of Chechnya, held a preventive conversation with local residents "who were caught while using narcotic and psychotropic drugs, as well as driving vehicles being in a state of alcoholic intoxication," reports the OVD for the Urus-Martan District on Instagram.

"Relatives promised to explain the principles of public behaviour to their family members in order to prevent such actions in the future. The detainees sincerely repented of their deeds and promised to improve their behaviour," OVD for the Urus-Martan District reports.

In Chechnya, the practice of public repentance with involvement of relatives has become commonplace. So, on July 11, a video was posted on social networks showing three young men detained for gross violation of traffic rules and fathers of two of them. The middle-aged men admitted on video camera that they were disgraced by the acts of their sons.
