Oppositionist Salaev complains about pressure in colony because of his support to Yagublu

Alizamin Salaev, an Azerbaijani political prisoner, has claimed beatings in the colony after he declared a hunger strike in solidarity with Tofig Yagublu.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Alizamin Salaev was arrested on January 13, 2020, for 30 days under the administrative procedure after spreading a video in social networks criticizing a policeman. On April 20, Salaev was sentenced to two years and three months in prison on charges of libel and insult.

Oppositionist Tofig Yagublu declared a hunger strike on September 2. On the other day, the court sentenced him to four years and three months of imprisonment. With his hunger strike, Yagublu demands to cancel his conviction and acquit him in the case on disorderly conduct. The activist calls himself a victim of the provocation.

The imprisoned Alizamin (Zamin) Salaev, who is also a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was subjected to pressure because of his hunger strike announced in solidarity with Tofig Yagublu, the "Turan" News Agency reported on September 17, adding that Salaev went on a hunger strike on September 15 in Colony No. 16.

"Salaev called home and said that because of the hunger strike, he is under pressure, and he is beaten up every day by the colony staff. As soon as he reported this, the telephone connection with him was cut off," said one of PFPA members.
