Tofig Yagublu stays in critical condition, his daughter reports

After two weeks on hunger strike, oppositionist Tofig Yagublu has reached critical condition, his daughter reports today. On September 14, activists held a flash mob in the Baku metro with the demand to release Tofig Yagublu, who was sentenced in a case on a road traffic accident.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 2, oppositionist Tofig Yagublu declared a hunger strike. On the other day, the court sentenced him to four years and three months of imprisonment. On September 12, Tofig Yagublu was transferred to a private clinic amid the threat of a coma.

Tofig Yagublu, who has been continuing his hunger strike for 14 days, is in critical condition, his daughter Nigyar Khazi told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The father still stays at the resuscitation ward. Professor Adil Geibulla (a doctor treating Tofig Yagublu, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") already expresses concern over his health state. We can lose the father at any moment. The authorities should finally realize responsibility for his condition and immediately release Tofig Yagublu," Nigyar Khazi said.

In the evening on September 14, at the Ganjlik station of the Baku metro, a group of young people held a flash mob in support of Tofig Yagublu. At the station platform, the activists released helium-inflated balloons bearing the poster reading in Azerbaijani: "Freedom to Tofig Yagublu!" The video with the flash mob was broadcasted by the "Meydan.Tv", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.

Furthermore, on September 14, Azerbaijani natives living in Turkey held a protest action in front of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul with the demand to release Tofig Yagublu, the Voice of America (VOA) Azerbaijani service reported.
