Chechen residents condemn humiliation of opposition Telegram channel moderator

Residents of Chechnya criticized authors of a video in which a naked man was supposed to sit on a bottle as punishment for cooperating with a Telegram channel criticizing the authorities. The authors of the "1ADAT" channel claimed that the moderator of their chat was kidnapped and humiliated by law enforcers.

The video shows a sitting naked young man with an empty wine bottle standing next to him. The young man blames himself and his family members. "My mother is not a decent woman, I was born as a bastard, and my father kicked me out of the house ... Therefore, I punish myself," the young man said.

The "1ADAT" channel reports about the kidnappings and detentions of Chechen residents and about the luxurious everyday routine of top-ranking officials.

The video was posted on the Internet after the law enforcement bodies tracked down a number of the channel's followers and threatened them with torture, a source reported.

Administrators of the channel believe that the person in the video is a channel moderator kidnapped by Chechen law enforcers. According to the administrators, he "was caught due to informers."

Residents of Chechnya expressed their indignation with the video. "This is already something beyond any borders: to force a person to call his mother indecent and himself a bastard and even to force him naked on a bottle ... This is actually humiliation of the whole nation," wrote a local resident.

"No one has any right to do anything like that to a person, no matter what he does. After all, this is a shame for the whole life not only for that guy, but also for all his relatives, the whole family," noted Sakhib, a resident of Grozny.

"This is a blatant lawlessness, a mockery of both the laws and our customs and traditions, and in general of humanity," stated Viskhan, a local resident.
