Azerbaijan reports shelling of five villages in conflict zone

During the past 24 hours, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army in the Karabakh conflict zone and on the border with Armenia were shelled for 46 times, including from large-calibre machine guns, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 2, the Azerbaijani MoD counted 30 shelling attacks on its troops' positions in the conflict zone during the past 24 hours; and a day earlier, it announced 32 such attacks.

"During the past 24 hours, units of the Armed Forces of Armenia, by using large-calibre machine guns and sniper rifles, violated the ceasefire for 46 times in various sections of the frontline," the Azerbaijani MoD has stated in its website today.

The positions of the Azerbaijani Army stationed in the villages of Alibeili, Agdam and Kokhanebi of the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan, and in the villages of Gyunnut of the Sharur District, and Yukhary Buzgov of the Babek District of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR) came under fire, says the MoD's statement.

The fire was also delivered from the territories that Azerbaijan treats as its occupied ones, the country's MoD has stated.

As of 9:35 a.m. Moscow time today, the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh had not commented on this statement in their websites.

Let us remind you that the conflict escalated on July 12. Azerbaijan accused Armenia of trying to attack its positions. According to the Armenian side, the escalation of the situation in the region was triggered by an attempt to break through the border committed by the Azerbaijani troops. According to the official information, in the period from July 12 to July 27, six soldiers from the Armenian side were killed, while other 35 soldiers, two policemen, and one civilian were wounded. The authorities of Azerbaijan reported about 13 killed people, including 12 soldiers and one civilian, and four wounded soldiers.
