Volgograd activists demand to treat Navalny abroad

Doctors must allow transporting Alexei Navalny to a foreign clinic, Volgograd picketers insist. They link his poisoning with his political activities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, is in a coma after being allegedly poisoned; he was hospitalized in Omsk. Navalny's supporters have put forward a version of an attempt on his life.

In the evening on August 21, eight solo pickets were held in the Volgograd Alley of Heroes. The picketers stood with posters: "Alexei! Live to spite enemies!", "My Russia is poisoned!" and "Alexei Navalny: presumably poisoning; who will answer?"

Elena Sheina, an activist, was outraged at the fact that Navalny was still not allowed to be taken abroad for treatment. "Something terrible is happening; a person is deprived of medical care. The aircraft from Germany is already there, waiting, but doctors say one thing or another, and don't let his wife to him. This is a complete mockery. Of course, this is due to Alexei's political activities," Ms Sheina told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Nikita Demidovich, an activist of the Libertarian Party, has also linked the incident with Navalny's political activities. "He was poisoned because he is engaged in oppositional politics. They tried to shut up the unwanted person," Mr Demidovich told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
