MPH's report on efficiency of mask regime ridiculed in Chechnya

The tightening of the mask-wearing regime has led to a 40 percent decrease in the number of people infected with coronavirus in Chechnya, the republic's Ministry of Public Health (MPH) reported on August 15. Instagram users and local residents have ridiculed this statement, pointing out that the mask regime in Chechnya is only formally observed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Chechen authorities tightened the measures to prevent the coronavirus spread, after Ramzan Kadyrov was outraged in late July that he had met no people in medical masks while walking in Grozny.

According to the Chechen MPH, the number of COVID-19 cases in the republic has decreased by 40% after the tightening of the mask regime, the "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) reported on August 15 on its website.

Social network users have ridiculed the MPH's statement; some indicated that people prefer to wear masks on their chins. "Wearing masks on chins has reduced the number of infections," the user alihan_tl wrote in particular.

Residents of Chechnya adhere to the mask regime formally, Kheda, a woman from Grozny, confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Most people wear masks on their chins, purely to avoid nagging," she said.
