Azerbaijan claims shelling of three border villages

The positions of the Azerbaijani Army stationed in the villages on the border with Armenia and in the Karabakh conflict zone were shelled for 35 times during the last 24 hours, including from large-calibre machine guns, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 7, Azerbaijan announced 34 shelling attacks of its troops' positions for the past 24 hours in the Karabakh conflict zone, and counted 35 ones a day earlier.

"During the last 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces, by using large-calibre machine guns, violated the ceasefire for 35 times in various directions of the frontline," the Azerbaijani MoD has stated in its website today.

The Azerbaijani positions deployed in the villages of Alibeili, Agdam, Tovuz District, and in the village of Zamanli, Gadabay District, came under fire, the MoD has stated.

The shelling was also delivered from the territories treated by Azerbaijan as its occupied ones, says the MoD's statement.

As of 8:25 a.m. Moscow time today, the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh had not commented on this statement in their websites.

On July 12, the conflict intensified on the border in the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan and the Tavush Region of Armenia. According to the official information, in the period from July 12 to 27, six soldiers were killed from the Armenian side, while the Azerbaijani authorities reported 13 killed people.
