Karachayevo-Cherkessia: rector of Islamic Institute assaulted
Today, Ismail Bostanov, rector of the Islamic Institute and deputy chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of the Moslems of Karachayevo-Cherkessia and Stavropol Territory, has been taken to the city hospital of Cherkessk with firearm and incised wounds.
Three robbers rushed into his house, beat the churchman and wounded him with knives and firearms. Bostanov's wife was also beaten. Rector's small children got a strong psychological shock.
The owners of the house were forced, on pain of death, to give their money and jewellery out to the criminals. The robbers' lucre is estimated to make over 100,000 roubles.
According to one of the versions, the robbers have attacked Bostanov thinking that he kept in his house the money of the pilgrims who had planned to leave for Saudi Arabia with him today.
