Azerbaijan and Armenia exchange accusations of shelling 11 border villages

During the last 24 hours, the positions of Azerbaijani troops stationed in four villages on the border with Armenia and in the Karabakh conflict zone were shelled for 49 times, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed. In its turn, the MoD of Armenia accused Azerbaijan of shelling seven dwelling settlements.

According to official information, from July 12 to July 27, six military servicemen perished on the Armenian side; 38 other people were wounded: 35 militaries, two policemen and one civilian. The Azerbaijani authorities reported 13 casualties (including 12 militaries and one civilian) and four wounded soldiers. No new victims have been reported since July 27.

"The Armenian positions stationed in the villages of Chinari and Aigedzor of the Berd Districts attacked the positions of the Azerbaijani Army deployed in the villages of Kokhanebi, Asrik Djyrdakhan, Agbulag and Mundjuglu of the Tovuz District," the website of the Azerbaijani MoD has stated.

According to the Armenian side, the situation on the border aggravated after Azerbaijan's attempt to break through the border. The Azerbaijani MoD, in its turn, accused Armenia of trying to attack the positions of its troops.

There are no active battles on the border, but the situation remains tense; and a new conflict can occur anywhere on the border, experts from Yerevan and Baku assert.
