Armenian soldier killed on border with Azerbaijan

At night on July 27, while staying at a strongpoint, soldier Ashot Mikaelyan was killed by a sniper, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia reported.

According to the official information, in the period from July 12 to 16, four Armenian soldiers were killed, and other 39 people were wounded, including 36 soldiers, two policemen, and a civilian. A soldier, wounded on July 14, died on July 23. Thus, today, the number of the killed from the Armenian side has reached six persons. By July 16, the authorities of Azerbaijan reported 13 killed, including 12 soldiers and a civilian, and four wounded soldiers.

The incident took place in the north-eastern section of the border, reported Shushan Stepanyan, the press secretary for the Armenian MoD.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on July 21, Baku analysts noted the risk of new large-scale armed clashes on the line of contact, because the conflict between the two countries had not been resolved. According to the analysts, a new platform for negotiations should be created, since the earlier truce format has already exhausted itself.
