Version of attempt on Georgian journalist after Kadyrov's threats triggers disputes in social network
A native of Ingushetia has been detained in Tbilisi, who had prepared an attempt on the Georgian journalist, Giorgi Gabuniya on an order from Chechnya, the director general of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel, has stated. Some Facebook users ridiculed this version; while others called on the Georgian authorities to protect the journalist.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2019, hundreds of people staged a protest outside the office of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company in Tbilisi. They demanded apologies for the fact that the presenter Giorgi Gabuniya spoke obscenely on air about Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
After the offensive Gabuniya's remarks, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, wrote in his Telegram channel that the first persons of Georgia are obliged to apologize to Putin and Russia. He also expressed threats addressed to the Georgian journalist.
Giorgi Gabuniya said that he felt a threat after the reaction of Putin and Kadyrov to his insulting monologue. According to his story, he was repeatedly warned about the danger.
In the course of the special operation conducted in Tbilisi, a suspect, a native of Ingushetia, was detained, Nika Gvaramiya, Director General of the TV Company, has stated.
Commentators on the "JAMnews" Facebook page found Gabuniya's statements about the attempt on him unjustified. "Should they intend to kill, they'd have done it long ago! Who needs him!" the user Marianna Tsintsadze has stated.
