Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev left under arrest

The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has decided to extend by two months the custody of journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev, all accused of financing terrorism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since June 2019, Gadjiev has been under arrest within the case of financing terrorism. The journalist denies his guilt. Gadjiev's colleagues and friends are regularly holding pickets demanding his release.

The Dagestani SC, having considered the investigators' motion, has left Gadjiev in custody until August 13. Similar decisions were made with respect to other defendants under the same case – Kemal Tambiev and Abubakar Rizvanov, Akhmed Akhmedov, an advocate for Gadjiev, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The advocate has explained that the decisions to extend their arrest were made by the SC of Dagestan, because Gadjiev has been in custody for more than a year. Investigators asked the SC to extend the suspects' arrest by three months, until September 13, that is, the investigators' motion was satisfied partially, Mr Akhmedov has noted.
