Grozny residents criticize policemen for raids and fines

Police raids to find violators of the self-isolation regime and high fines imposed are criticized by residents of Grozny.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Grozny, law enforcers continue their checks amid the weakening of the quarantine, while local residents complain that they are demanded to wear medical masks even in street.

A report broadcast by the "Grozny" TV Channel shows policemen visiting households and checking for pedestrians' and drivers' permits. The author of the reports stated that people had incorrectly perceived the removal of certain restrictive measures: "they decided that the self-isolation regime had been cancelled, and began going outside."

Many Instagram users treat the introduced measures as too harsh.

"Where do unemployed people pay the fine from?" the user ashura971 has asked.

"In other regions, people walk calmly, but in Chechnya, they're mocking at us," the user qwertyy199944 believes.

"They blamed me for going out not at the time indicated in my permit ... My mother is with me after a surgery; the medicine for her can only be ordered at a pharmacy located in the city centre. I tried to explain the situation to the policeman, but he wouldn't listen, saying that it wasn't his problem," said Luiza, a resident of Grozny.

According to Zaindi, law enforcers cause negative reaction not only in adults, but also in children.

"People have really become nervous ... Children shy away from policemen like from plague. A young law enforcer lives in my house section; he saw a neighbour's girl in the yard and wanted to bring her home and took her by hand, but she bit him and ran away," said Zaindi.
