Suleimanov's call for strict quarantine triggers new discontent among residents of Chechnya

Elkhan Suleimanov, the head of the Chechen Ministry of Public Health (MPH), has urged residents of the republic to take quarantine measures even more rigorously amid the growth of coronavirus infection cases. There is the third month of self-isolation; people have no money even to buy foodstuffs, and local residents were indignant.

The video clip with the appeal of Suleimanov, in which he is dressed in an anti-plague costume, was posted on May 27 in the "Grozny TV" page on the Instagram. "The number of patients ... is increasing. There are a lot of grave patients, of those, who have concomitant diseases, as well as elderly people, who are very hard in withstanding it (the virus). This suggests that we need to still more strictly approach to the quarantine measures, observe the social distance and all the hygiene measures," Minister Suleimanov has stated.

"We're at home for the third month, having no work and no income," the Instagram user dostupa_net11 is indignant in the comment to the above video clip. "We have run out of money today," the user gumka111 has written. "Give a chance to work at least to those, who have jobs. I have a nervous breakdown: children look into my eyes when there is nothing to eat," the user stasmtkhailo has demanded.
