North-Caucasian residents treat restrictions on Eid al-Fitr with understanding

The restrictions imposed in connection with coronavirus made changes in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr in the republics of Northern Caucasus. Local residents have welcomed the holiday in their families; they almost did not visit cemeteries, and congratulated each other over the phone.

"This year, we have neither a holiday namaz, nor guests. We celebrate it at home, even my daughter won't come to me. We all observe the self-isolation regime," said Klara, an elderly resident of North Ossetia.

According to her story, Imams sent holiday sermons through messengers so that all parishioners could listen to them. "People are afraid, no one pays visits; no one visited cemeteries on that day," the woman said.

Ismail Mankiev, a resident of the Ingush village of Dolakovo, has noted that recently the number of people without medical masks has significantly decreased. According to his story, people were impressed by a sharp increase in the number of infected. "Also, the clergymen's and doctors' appeals to observe the self-isolation regime didn't go unnoticed. Some were afraid that on the day of Eid al-Fitr they would visit guests. However, today (on May 24) practically everyone is at home and receive congratulations by phone," Mr Mankiev has stated.
