Armenian authorities decide to mitigate state of emergency

Within ten days, Armenia will first minimize and then lift the restrictions on economic activities, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announces. Meanwhile, residents are allowed to go for walks up to one kilometer from their place of residence.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from March 16, the state of emergency has been in force in Armenia because of the spread of the coronavirus infection. Mass events are prohibited, and classes at educational institutions are cancelled. The state of emergency has been extended until May 14.

Today, on the air on his Facebook page, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced that the restrictions for all spheres of economic activities provided for by the emergency regime will be lifted step by step within ten days.

According to the Armenian Prime Minister, to ensure the above, the Ministry for Public Health of Armenia should develop the necessary security measures for each economic entity in order to minimize the risks of infection.

The quarantine regime will still be in force in educational institutions in the country. "In schools and universities, the quarantine will be in force for an indefinite period of time," said Nikol Pashinyan as translated from the Armenian language by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In turn, the Commandant's Office of Armenia introduced amendments to the decision on restrictive measures. In particular, residents of the country are allowed to go for sports and, in particular, cycling at a distance of no more than one kilometer from their place of residence, instead of 500 meters allowed earlier. A provision has also been added to allow family walks at a distance not exceeding one kilometer from the place of residence.
