Residents of Georgia complain of officials' refusal of humanitarian aid

The residents of the Marneuli District of Georgia, closed for strict quarantine, have reported that officials are distributing humanitarian aid among their friends and relatives; and there are not enough foodstuffs at stores. Those who are jobless receive no material assistance, the Centre for Human Rights Training and Monitoring asserts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that two districts of the Kvemo Kartli Region – the Bolnisi and Marneuli District, compactly populated by ethnic Azerbaijanis, were closed for quarantine after coronavirus was detected at a local female resident on March 22. Human rights defenders have noted that some residents of the districts complain that policemen are unnecessarily toughly demanding the observance of the self-isolation regime.

Residents of the Marneuli and Bolnisi Districts complain about a large number of denials of humanitarian aid. During strict quarantine, single pensioners, families with young children and the poor have remained without help. Out of 80 requests for humanitarian aid, only 14 persons have received it.

Residents of the districts also reported that local authorities spoke rudely with them when addressed.

Apart from the deficit of goods at stores, the quarantined districts are experiencing a shortage of medicines, said Leila Suleimanova, the head of the NGO "Union of Azerbaijani Women".
