PFPA announces detention of its activist

Niyameddin Akhmedov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was detained when he left home after receiving SMS permit. His whereabouts is unknown, reports Ilham Gusein, a member of the PFPA's Presidium.

According to Ilham Gusein, Niyameddin Akhmedov was detained on April 15. "In connection with the special quarantine regime imposed to fight against the coronavirus pandemic, a person may leave home after receiving a permit. In accordance with the permit system, Niyameddin did not leave home until he received SMS permit. The activist was detained several minutes later. We are still not aware where they are keeping him. His relatives are not informed of his whereabouts, despite their requests sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). Let them already announce that our party members may not use SMS permits to leave home," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the member of the PFPA's Presidium.

According to Ilham Gusein, "Niyameddin became the fifth member of the PFPA detained over the past seven to eight days." "Earlier, Faig Amirli, Ruslan Amirov, Nidjat Abdullaev, and Baba Suleimanov had been detained and arrested under administrative procedures," Ilham Gusein stated.
