Quarantine hits family budgets in KBR

A week after the introduction of self-isolation regime, residents of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) have complained to Kazbek Kokov by means of social networks that they were left without a livelihood.

By April 8, the number of coronavirus infected patients in the KBR reached 23.

"Judging by Mr Kokov's (Kazbek Kokov is the head of the KBR, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") comments on his Instagram page, there are many people for whom missing work even for one week is so disastrous that they have already asked him for help. Users write that they stay at home without the livelihood," the author of the blog "Women's Look from Nalchik", run on the "Caucasian Knot" has written.

Social network users have urged the head of the republic to decide on the possibility of their going to work.

"In our situation, it’s easier to die from the virus in a day than from hunger within a month. People were left without work and livelihoods; 99% of the population are in loans," the user grazia_07 has commented.

Other Instagram users have complained that they ran out of money for buying foodstuffs, repaying the loans and making other obligatory payments.

Some users discuss the problem of the plight of the residents of the republic and the issue of forced informal employment due to the republic's high unemployment rate.
