Azerbaijani authorities declare a non-working week

In Azerbaijan, in connection with the spread of the coronavirus infection, the Cabinet of Ministers has declared a non-working period from March 29 to April 4. It was decided not to open the border with Iran until April 20.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 12, the first patient diagnosed with the coronavirus infection died in Azerbaijan. Today, it has become known that another patient died, and the number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus infection reached 81.

A quarantine regime has been introduced in Azerbaijan starting from March 24. Residents of the country over 65 years old are not allowed to leave home until April 20. These measures have led to a decrease in the number of people and transport in the streets of Baku.

Earlier, the period from March 20 to 28 had been declared non-working days in Azerbaijan on the occasion of the Novruz Bayrami holiday. A working week was to begin on Sunday, March 29. However, in connection with the special quarantine regime, the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers ordered to extend the non-working period from March 29 to April 4. The decision does not concern objects of national importance and life support. Heads of some public institutions and departments will work. Banks, supermarkets, grocery stores, pharmacies, and food production enterprises will continue working.

Moreover, the Azerbaijani authorities decided to extend a ban on crossing the state border until April 20. The border with Georgia has been closed for the same period of time.

Azerbaijan continues to return its citizens from other countries. "Next week, it is planned to return 200-400 Azerbaijani citizens from abroad," reports the operational headquarters. All people arriving in the country will be placed under quarantine.
