Mass events banned in Azerbaijan due to coronavirus

Because of the spread of coronavirus in Azerbaijan, all mass events have been cancelled for a month; the work of cinemas, entertainment centres and gyms is prohibited; the work of public catering establishments is limited.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the coronavirus infection was confirmed in four Azerbaijani citizens who returned from Italy and Iran. The number of those hospitalized with a dangerous virus in the country has reached 15. On March 12, the country fixed the first death from coronavirus. Georgia announced closure of the border with Azerbaijan for 10 days; the decision was made in line with recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) in order to stop the spread of the virus.

On March 12, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture announced the closure of libraries and museums for an indefinite period.

There is no coronavirus pandemic in Azerbaijan; the above measures taken are aimed at the prevention thereof, Ibragim Mamedov, the head of the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, have announced.

Due to the threat of coronavirus, the Grand Prix of Formula-1 motor race, scheduled for early June in Azerbaijan, may be postponed, the press service of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has informed.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report.   • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine. Meanwhile, Ruslan Mitrofan requested the compensation in the amount of 100,000 roubles.
