Residents of Chechnya criticize law enforcers for video with condemnation of detainees

The publication of a new video in which the chief of the Kurchaloi ROVD (District Interior Division) is reproaching detainees for drinking alcoholic beverages and using psychotropic substances indicates the inefficiency of the public condemnation practice, local residents note.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from October 2019, users of social networks regularly make posts about "preventive conversations" at the district interior divisions of the Chechen police with people detained for drinking alcoholic beverages and using psychotropic substances.

On March 1, a new video with a conversation between the Kurchaloi ROVD chief and detainees was posted in the Instagram news public account "eldit_net" and closed public account "ChP Chechnya".

Authors of some comments left under the video found the practice of "preventive conversations" ineffective. "They are caught and shown on video, but they do not care," wrote, in particular, user podarovataisiia.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent also interviewed employees of local public organizations who voiced a similar opinion. "Based on the fact that this is not the first such video, we may draw a conclusion that such public humiliation does not have any effect on offenders," said, in particular, Abubakar, an employee of a Chechen NGO.
