Instagram users surprised by reconciliation of blood feud conflict in Chechnya

Relatives of a murdered resident of the Nadterechny District are reconciled with two families who appealed to Ramzan Kadyrov. In Chechnya, relatives of murderers can escape persecution, but criminals themselves rarely escape revenge, experts note.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 21, a ceremony of reconciliation of the blood feud parties took place in the Shelkovsky District of Chechnya, and on February 10, in the Vedeno District, two families who had been in a state of blood feud for 25 years were reconciled. Forced reconciliation can lead to a resumption of conflict, expert of the Caucasus emphasize.

Reconciliation of blood feud parties took place in the Nadterechny District of Chechnya, and relatives of a local resident who had been killed 10 years ago refused to take revenge, the "Grozny" TV Company reported.

While robbing a petrol station, Alikhan Tsupkaev and Avkhan Malikov killed Aslakhanov, a worker of the station. The murderers are serving their sentences in a penal colony. Relatives of Alikhan Tsupkaev appealed to the leader of Chechnya with a request for reconciliation.

In response to the appeal of the deputy mufti, Abdul Nazirov, the imam of the mosque in the village of Novoterskoye, has stated that victims are ready for reconciliation "for the sake of our beloved padishah who loves us."

The reconciliation of the blood feud parties takes place under pressure from the authorities, and this can lead to a renewal of hostility, says Umar, a resident of Chechnya.

"The fact that the murderers were sent to prison is not taken as a proper punishment: at our place, the retaliation for the spilled blood is the murderer's blood. I believe those people who find the courage to forgive a person responsible for the death of their close relative are worthy of respect," said Aslambek, a student of Grozny.

Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, notes that blood feud is not usually announced against people not involved in the murder. According to him, a person can sometimes pay off blood feud.
