Believers tell about long raids at “Tangim” Mosque

On Friday, January 24, 2020, law enforcers began their raid at the “Tangim” Mosque in Makhachkala long before the Friday namaz (prayer); and it lasted longer than usual. Visitors to the mosque said that they are used to checks and take documents with them in advance.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that law enforcers are regularly conducting their Friday raids in the vicinity of the “Tangim” Mosque. Usually, they check documents of drivers and passengers of the cars leaving the mosque after the prayer, but on the previous Friday, January 17, they stopped pedestrians as well.

Earlier, raids were accompanied by detentions of believers. This practice was stopped after in March 2019, representatives of the mosque complained to the prosecutor’s office.

Dozens of law enforcers took part in the yesterday’s raid. Recently, the number of them has grown; and this time there were as many of them as on January 17, the journalist Idris Yusupov has pointed out. According to his story, law enforcers put down both drivers’ personal data and the number plates of their cars.

The mosque parishioners have noted that they got accustomed to law enforcers’ weekly raids. Thus, a believer named Magomed said his car was stopped at the “Tangim” Mosque once every two or three weeks. He has emphasized that he has been on the so-called “prophylactic registry” for several years.

Murad, a resident of Makhachkala, who has been visiting the “Tangim” Mosque for a year and a half, said that every Friday he takes his documents with him, although he has no car. “At any moment, they can stop you and ask to present documents,” he has explained.
