Social network users react to sentence for "honour killing" in Dagestan

A resident of Dagestan is sentenced for killing his stepsister. He claimed that she did not obey him and did not want to get married. Social network users expressed different opinions on Instagram. Meanwhile, many users supported the sentenced man.

The sentenced Dagestani resident claimed that his sister did not obey him, left for Makhachkala, and did not want to get married, the "Dagestan" TV Channel reported. The man pleaded guilty and repented of his act.

On September 28, 2019, at the awarding ceremony named after Doctor Aishat Magomedova, "honour killings" were mentioned among the most acute problems of women in Northern Caucasus. The term of "honour killings" refers to murders by relatives of girls and young women who are considered to have dishonoured their families.

A video about the sentence to the Dagestani resident was posted in the "tut.yuzhdag" group on Instagram. Social network users expressed different opinions about the killing, and some users supported the resident of Dagestan. Several dozen users supported the "honour killing."

"If she turned to debauchery, then the man did everything right, for edification of others," commented user sherlock_0555.

"He did the right thing... I wish every brother would watch his sisters like that," wrote user salimgereeva__.

Another part of social network users condemned the killer.

"He killed a person, and this is a great sin. And there is no justification for him," wrote user ishchenko7409.
