Dagestani police borrow Chechen experience of offenders' public repentances

Following their Chechen colleagues, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan has posted a video with apologies of a resident of Khasavyurt for violating traffic rules, treating the imposed administrative fine as an insufficient educative measure.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the fall and winter of 2019, in different districts of Chechnya, law enforcers held "educative conversations" with the persons detained for drinking alcohol and using psychotropic substances, including car drivers.

Last night, the Dagestani MIA posted a video footage on its Instagram page showing a passenger car driving on a footpath that separates the roadway. "The driver was brought to administrative responsibility," says the caption.

Also, the video contains an appeal of the detained driver, who, looking into the camera admits that he was driving his Priora car on the pedestrian alley. "I admit my mistake and urge other road users not to make such mistakes," the young man says.

"Judging by such acts, these people clearly want to publicly acknowledge their 'courage' and 'insolence'; and we give them a chance to speak out and publicly explain what exactly had prompted them to commit such acts," the MIA's press service has stated, pointing out that fines for such drivers is a measure "alas, inefficient."
