Possible extradition of resident of Chechnya from Ukraine worried his relatives

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Ukraine is preparing to extradite a native of Chechnya to Russia, said the representative of his family. According to his version, in Russia, the man is suspected of links with militants; and his extradition is being prepared in violation of the legal procedure.

The detention of the 30-year-old native of the Chechen village of Shali was reported to his relatives by agents of Russian special services. They assume that they will have the man on January 9.

The detainee was not informed about the outcomes of the check that the GPO is obliged to conduct by the law, the "Kavkaz.Realii" quotes the above family representative as saying.

Yusup was in Ukraine illegally. According to unconfirmed information, he had served in a special unit in Chechnya, but quitted his service and left Russia in search of asylum. He was detained on September 1, 2019, while checking his documents. In Ukraine, he is accused of illegal possession of firearms, and in Russia – of participation in illegal armed formations (IAFs). According to sources, the top officials of the Chechen administration are interested in his extradition.
