Fortuneteller's detention revealed demand for sorcerers' services in Chechnya

Theologians and law enforcers have scolded Petimat Suleimanova, a resident of Urus-Martan, for the provision of occult services, as it follows from the new plot of the "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Company). Despite the authorities' efforts, the demand for sorcerers' services is not weakening in the republic, Instagram users have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after in July, the Chechen authorities intensified the persecution of people who provided occult services; the "Grozny" TV Channel showed at least eight stories in which local residents repented of their engagement in fortunetelling.

The "Grozny" ChGTRK has posted the story about Petimat Suleimanova, a fortuneteller from Urus-Martan, tonight in its Instagram page.

The authors of the report have emphasized that the woman took money from clients for her occult services, including for removing witcheries. In the video, Adam Elzhurkaev, the head physician of the Centre for Islamic Medicine in Grozny, talks with Petimat Suleimanova.

"Theologians have held an explanatory conversation with the woman and told her what fate according to Islam awaits those who are engaged in fortunetelling, witchcraft and others similar things. Law enforcers have also talked to the fraudster," the annotation to the video explains.

The woman's husband said to the camera that his wife "had dishonoured him," and he would no longer allow her to do fortunetelling.

The authors of some comments to the ChGTRK's post on the Instagram have drawn attention to the fact that, despite persecutions of sorcerers, women in Chechnya continue rendering occult services.

"It's horrible how many of them are being rendered," the user khasmagomed_ wrote, in particular. "As long as there is demand, there'll be supply," the user ks.6056 has commented.
