Lawyers find it unlawful to make public video evidence of violence victim in Dagestan

The girl, whose high-profile rape case is being investigated in Dagestan, is in a rehabilitation centre. The advocate of the suspect, who has reported torture, demands to punish the person, who had posted the girl's testimonies in social networks. This video was posted with the aim to justify law enforcers, the journalist, Svetlana Anokhina, has suggested.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 21, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan posted a video on the Instagram with the girl's testimony, of raping whom Musa Aliev, a resident of Mutsalaul, is suspected; he claimed that he was tortured. The girl had been exposed to violence for several years; her fellow villagers tormented her, the writer, Maryam Alieva, has stated.

According to Aminat Abakarova, the head of the rehabilitation centre, the video, in which the girl named her alleged rapists, was shot at the centre by a girl's relative.

"I don't know who needed to post the video, but it's definitely not in the interests of the girl herself ... She's just used in some dirty games," Ms Abakarova has stated.

Any disclosure of one's personal data can be an additional stress for the violence victim, Saida Sirazhudinova, the president of the "Caucasus. World. Development" Centre for Studying Global Modern Issues and Regional Problems. According to her story, the traditional society does not seek to defend the weak.

Because of public condemnation, many victims of violence prefer to hide what happened to them and try to solve problems in a different way, she has explained.
